Some residents and business owners in a Woodford County city are upset over a decision by United Parcel Service to reduce delivery days. Brian Demers said after his latest order of a box of fresh fish from Alaska, he got a message from the company he’d purchased it from saying the package had been delayed. He said the UPS driver explained why it was late.

“And he said, ‘Hey, I don't know if it's good or not. It's been sitting in the warehouse for the past -- for 24-hour delay because we no longer deliver to Midway on Tuesdays and Thursdays.’ So I opened up the package, and sure enough, most of it had already thawed out.”

Demers said the Alaskan company told him they’d replace the fish, which cost about $150. After Demers posted on the Midway Musings Facebook page, other people, including Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift, chimed in and Demers said he did a little research.

“From a business sense, it makes sense, but from a personal sense, it’s just another inconvenience of life.”

Vandegrift said he’ll file a formal complaint with the company, but is skeptical it will make a difference in what’s likely a nationwide decision.

In a statement, a UPS spokesman said, "We are consolidating deliveries in certain ZIP codes to help our drivers more efficiently serve our customers. UPS shipments to these ZIP codes will spend an additional day in transit."
