Would it surprise you to know that contrary to local belief, driving in El Paso is not all that unpleasant?

In a new study conducted by Wallethub detailing the best and worst cities to drive in, El Paso was ranked as one of the top cities in America to drive in.

In fact, the online financial site maintains that the Sun City offers a better experience behind the wheel than 90 percent of the 100 largest cities in America.

    A Driver’s Paradise? Wait, What!

Now before you demand a recount and begin silently listing the number of things El Pasoans are deficient in behind the wheel and start railing about what terrible drivers most are, you have to understand the rankings have nothing to do with tailgating, lack of courtesy, non-use of blinkers, or any of the other numerous things people on the mean streets of El Paso do to tick you off on the daily.

But I’ll stop you when you’re lying about the horrible drivers, though. Most days El Paso drivers make me want to punch a baby. Of course, I never would, I mean, babies are adorable and all that, but that’s how triggered I can get.

Some days I have to forego driving altogether just to give my middle finger some much needed rest.

    How the Ranking Were Determined

To determine “Best & Worst Cities to Drive in ,” the study looked at data in the “key” categories of Cost of Ownership & Maintenance, Traffic & Infrastructure, Safety, and Access to Vehicles & Maintenance.

The study also took into account 30 “relevant metrics” such as hours spent in traffic congestion, cost of vehicle ownership and maintenance, rate of car thefts, and share of uninsured drivers -- all of which El Paso scored fairly well in.

Although I honestly don’t know how we can score high in an 'uninsured drivers' category unless its 'the greatest number of.'

    Best and Worst in Texas

The analysis concluded that despite the ubiquitous road construction and exasperating traffic congestion, driving around in the 915 isn't as bad as locals make it out to be and nowhere near as frustrating as it is in so many other cities.

El Paso was ranked the 12th best city in the nation to drive in, and the 5th best in Texas, behind Lubbock (8), Laredo (7), Plano (4), and Corpus Christi (1).

Houston was the deemed the worst in the Lone Star State at number 59. Other Texas city rankings include Dallas at 37, Austin at 24, and San Antonio placed 16th.
