Hollywood is in our backyard. Or more specifically, downtown.

A Warner Bros. Pictures movie crew is in El Paso to film scenes for a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The production’s Sun City arrival has been in the works for some time, but was made official during the May 20, 2024 Commissioners Court meeting after El Paso County Commissioners approved and authorized the County Judge to enter into an agreement with the movie company to lease a parking lot and an unoccupied county owned building on South Campbell Street through July 30.

Per the contract, Warner Bros. is paying the County of El Paso $25,000 for use of the building “to stage equipment, sets, film support and catering vehicles including mobile facilities for hair, makeup and costumes.”

The parking lot will be used to park the company’s vehicles during film production.

    About the Project

Not much is known about the movie as the plot is being kept under wraps. The majority of production has so far taken place in California

The cast of the “Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Event Film” (sometimes referred to as “BC Project),” also includes Sean Penn, Regina Hall and Benicio Del Toro, according to IMDB.

The film was written by and is being directed by Paul Thomas Anderson under the working title BC Project. Anderson is best known for writing and directing the 1997 Oscar-nominated “Boogie Nights” starring Mark Walberg as porn star Dirk Diggler.

He also wrote and directed "Licorice Pizza," which received three Academy Award nominations in 2022 for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Director.

The untitled DiCaprio project has an anticipated release of August 2025, according to Deadline.

Will DiCaprio be in El Paso?

It is not known at this time how big a role and to what extent El Paso will play in the movie’s production or which stars, if any, will be in town for filming.

Those hoping to bump into the "Wolf of Wall Street" star or one of the other Hollywood heavyweights at a downtown hotel or business will have to keep an eye out for a celebrity sighting.
