QCA martial artist in the fight of his life against cancer
A Quad-City martial artist is taking on the fight of his life: cancer. John Morrow, owner of Morrow’s Academy of Martial Arts in Moline, has had a long career of. fighting and giving. Morrow was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, but it hasn’t stopped the 72-year-old from doing what he loves, instructing martial arts and fundraising for charity. Morrow has raised thousands over the years by performing great physical feats, and he’s planning to do even more fundraising despite his cancer diagnosis.

Hawks Drop Two to Davenport Schools Saturday
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team came up short in a pair of Saturday contests against Quad Cities schools at the Iowa City West Rick Doran Classic at Pearl Field on the campus of the University of Iowa. The morning matchup was a 6-2 loss to Davenport Central. The Hawks scored once in the first and were matched by the Blue Devils with one in the bottom half. Central got three in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Hawks got back within 4-2 with a tally in the fourth, but the Devils got single insurance runs in the fourth and sixth to finish the win.
Golden Hawks Face Ranked 3A Knights in Late Season Test
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team continues their march toward postseason play with quality opponents down the stretch, including a Tuesday trip to Davenport Assumption. The Hawks are 19-8 on the year, 13-5 champions of the South Division of the River Valley Conference. They scored a 9-3 road win at Sigourney Monday. On the year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .308 as a team with a .457OBP and .390 slug, scoring 187 runs on 204 hits with 153 walks and 144 strikeouts. Four Hawks hit .300 or better, led by Tatem Telfer’s .381 with 32 hits and 27RBI. Brady Weber is the leader with 25 runs scored. Bowen Burmeister and Luke Traetow are also over .300. The Golden Hawk staff ERA is 3.17 with a .232 opponent average on 153 hits, 76 earned runs, 117 walks and 199 strikeouts. Telfer is 5-1 with a 1.95ERA Burmeister, Weber, Brock Harland and Carson Pence are all multi-game winners with a combined ERA under four.
