Reading man charged in Delaware motel shooting
NEW CASTLE COUNTY, De. - State Police in Delaware say a Berks County, Pa man is in custody following a shooting earlier this month at a New Castle County motel. 21-year-old Erickson Acuapa of Reading is charged with assault, reckless endangerment and related offenses for a shooting at the Red Roof Inn and Suites located in the 1600 block of N. Dupont Highway.

Delaware DOC Looking for Offender Who Failed to Return from Approved Work Pass
The Delaware Department of Correction is looking for an offender who willfully walked away from the Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) in Georgetown after failing to return yesterday from an approved work pass. The offender’s whereabouts are unknown and unauthorized at this time. A Warrant for Escape after Conviction has been issued. The name of the offender is Sylvester Deshields, whose current offense is Violation of Probation: Assault in the 1st Degree. Deshields is a black man who is 5’9 and 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. His date of birth was October 15th, 1980. His last known address was in Wilmington. According to the Delaware DOC, Deshields has scars on his right eyebrow, right ringer, left knee, and nose as well as tattoos on his back, right forearm, and left forearm. Anyone with information on this offender is asked to call (800) 542-9524 or their local police department.
Police: Bear spotted in Delaware died trying to cross highway
The bear that captivated Delawareans this week has died, state police said. The animal was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross Route 1 in the area of School Bell Road near Bear, Del., around 11 p.m. Tuesday. Tractor-trailer hauling steel beams collides with another on I-95 in DE
NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. (CBS) -- Part of I-95 northbound in Delaware was blocked Thursday after two tractor-trailers collided in a crash, according to police.A tractor-trailer hauling steel beams and another tractor-trailer collided with a concrete barrier, Delaware State Police said in a news release. As of 8:30 a.m. only the three left lanes on the norhbound side were blocked near the I-495 interchange.The ramp from I-495 southbound to I-295 northbound was also closed due to the crash.The crash left steel beams all over the highway, which were being cleared.
Ocean View man arrested for home improvement fraud
LEWES, Del. – An Ocean View man has been charged in connection to a home improvement fraud investigation. On Thursday, a Lewes resident reported that he entered into a contract with a man, identified as Jeremy Bowen, back in February, to complete construction of a pool and fence. The resident reportedly paid a down payment of $16,450, and after receiving the deposit, the victim reportedly stopped hearing from Bowen. The victim contacted police after many attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
Neighbors and passing driver rescue couple from Frederica home fire
Two older residents were critically injured after a passing driver and neighbors rescued them from a mobile home fire near Frederica on Wednesday. The fire was reported shortly after 3 a.m. by a passing driver on Sycamore Drive in the High Point Mobile Home Park, said Assistant State Fire Marshal B. Scott Bullock. The park is just west of Route 1 in the Little Heaven area, about 3 miles north of Frederica.
One Injured in Rt 24 Crash in Oak Orchard after Dump Truck Overturned
One person was injured after a dump truck failed to remain stopped for a red light and crashed into a pickup truck driven by a 61 year old Lewes man. Delaware State Police say the impact caused the dump truck to overturn spilling a load of rock and dirt onto Route 24. The Lewes man was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the dump truck, a 50 year old man from Salisbury, was not injured – he was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device and expired registration.
Federal preliminary report: Plane lost power prior to crash
A late-night airplane crash that occurred nearly 2½ months ago on West Raleigh Boulevard resulted after the plane experienced a total loss of power. That is according to an aviation investigation preliminary report that the National Transportation Safety Board posted online about the April 14 incident.
