15-year-old charged for shooting 2 other teens in Champaign
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — A 15-year-old in Champaign has been charged following an investigation into the shooting of two other teenagers on July 20. The shooting happened in the 3900 block of Colleen Drive. Champaign Police say that a 16-year-old and 18-year-old were shot multiple times in the torso while driving westbound on Colleen Dr. Their injuries were life-threatening, but both have since been treated and released, according to CPD.
Pekin High School Artist Earns Prestigious Honor in the 17th District Congressional Art Competition
Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) congratulated Pekin Community High School senior Rachel Fry on winning the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for Illinois’ 17th District. Her winning submission, Clownish Tomfoolery, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. “Young people across Central and Northwestern Illinois are going to be the key to ensuring our neighborhoods are prosperous for generations to come,” said Sorensen. “It is an honor to host this competition that celebrates the amazing artistic abilities of our high school students. It is my hope that these competitions inspire more students to pursue their passions.” The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 and has accepted more than 650,000 pieces of art from high schoolers nationwide. Artwork from each congressional district is selected to be displayed at the U.S. Capitol. The winner of Sorensen’s Congressional Art Competition was selected by local leaders in the arts from Illinois’ 17th Congressional District.
