    Vote for the top MetroWest/Milford Daily News female athlete of the 2023-24 year

    School starts next month.

    Hard to believe with all the heat and humidity that has overtaken the region. But there is no better time than now to look back at the fall, winter and spring seasons that brought athletes raising championship trophies and banners across the MetroWest and Milford areas.

    If you’re not quite ready to think about classes and earlier sunsets just yet, this is just the thing for you.

    We’re opening up a poll for the area’s top athletes for girls and boys as well as the top team for girls and boys from the 2023-24 year.

    This one is for top female athlete.

    Tara Battaglino, Wellesley

    The Bay State Conference Carey Division MVP and USA Lacrosse All-American lacrosse player scored 83 goals as a sophomore. She also played varsity basketball.

    Lizzie Brytowski, Hopedale

    The senior notched her 600th career strikeout and 100th career hit in the same game. In the fall, she played field hockey and posted a 1.05 goals against average to go with nine shutouts.

    Emily Carney, Franklin

    In the fall, the junior, who is headed to Fairfield University, scored 29 goals and added 19 assists in her third season starting as a center mid. She also played lacrosse in the spring.

    Sam Collette, Hudson

    The senior was a First Team Mid-Wach C All-Star in basketball after averaging 11.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. She also played softball in the spring, where she earned her 100th career hit during the team’s memorable run to the Division 3 state championship game.

    Annie Comella, Wellesley

    During indoor track, the junior won the 55-meter dash and was second in both the long jump and 300 at the Division 2 meet. She followed with a long jump win and a fourth-place finish in the 55 at the Meet of Champions. She was just as dominant outdoors, winning the 100 and 200 at the Division 2 championships and taking second in the long jump. She was sixth in the long jump at the Meet of Champions.

    Abby Desmarais, Framingham

    After winning the 55 and 300 at the Division 1 indoor track championships, the senior won the 300 at the Meet of Champions. Outdoors, she won the 100 at the Division 1 meet and placed in the 200 at the Meet of Champions, where she also anchored the 4x400 relay team to a victory.

    Sarah Dumas, Franklin

    A four-time track and field All-American, the senior won the Meet of Champions 100 outdoor hurdles and the Division 1 pentathlon and MSTCA South Heptathlon. Indoors, the Penn commit placed third in the Meet of Champions 55 hurdles after winning that event at the Division 1 meet, where she was also fourth in the high jump.

    Harper Friedholm, Lincoln-Sudbury

    Great with a stick in her hands, the Cornell-bound senior was the league ice hockey MVP after scoring 16 goals to go with 13 assists. On the lacrosse field, she was again named the league’s top player after netting 65 goals and adding 16 assists.

    Emma Gosselin, Hopedale

    The Dual Valley Conference’s Player of the Year in the fall (13 goals, 14 assists), Gosselin scored her 100th career lacrosse point in the spring. She also played basketball, scoring a season-high 20 points against Whitinsville-Christian.

    Lindsey Grattan, Millis

    A Tri-Valley League All-Star in basketball (11.9 points, 5.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game), the junior also played soccer in the fall and softball in the spring.

    Annie Harwich, Algonquin

    A team captain, USA Lacrosse All-American and Mid-Wach A First-Team All-Star, she also played field hockey, the sport she will play at Endicott.

    Drew Hussar, Dover-Sherborn

    The Tri-Valley League Small MVP for field hockey, the senior captained the Raiders to a state semifinal appearance. She also served as a basketball and softball captain. She is headed to MIT.

    Olivia LaBelle, Algonquin

    The senior, who is headed to Williams, finished second the 100 hurdles at the outdoor Meet of Champions and helped Algonquin win the 4x100 relay. She won the 100 hurdles at the Division 2 meet to go with another 4x1 win and a second place in the 400 hurdles.

    LaBelle won the 55 hurdles at the D2 indoor championships.

    Audrey Lenox, Hudson

    After averaging 5.8 points per game – including a 17-point effort vs. Littleton, over the winter on the hardwood, the senior came up big on the softball diamond. She provided the winning hits in consecutive playoff wins as the Hawks advanced to the Division 3 state title game.

    Olivia Melanson, Medway

    A sweet-shooting Tri-Valley League All-Star basketball player in the winter, averaging 10.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, the junior had no trouble finding the net in the spring. Melanson scored 62 lacrosse goals, earned TVL All-Star honors and was named team MVP.

    Olivia Norchi, Natick

    A Bay State Conference All-Star in field hockey (10 goals), the senior starred on the lacrosse field with 101 goals and was named USA Lacrosse All-Academic. She will play lacrosse at Colgate.

    Lauren O’Malley, Hudson

    A three-sport athlete for the Hawks, the junior played soccer in the fall (she will be a captain this coming season), hockey in the winter (she was named a Daily News All-Star) and softball in the spring, leading the team with a .448 batting average.

    Cae Pellegrini, Milford

    A First-Team Hockomock League selection in softball, the junior hit .493 with three home runs. She also played basketball and soccer for the Scarlet Hawks.

    Gabrielle Pierre, Lincoln-Sudbury

    The junior won the New Balance outdoor triple jump and was 10th in the long jump. She won the triple jump at the Meet of Champions and the Division 1 meet, where she set a state record, and won the long jump at the M of C. Pierre placed second at the indoor M of C in the long jump. She also played volleyball in the fall.

    Nora Quitt, Ashland

    The senior won 138-pound titles at States, All-States and New Englands, becoming the first from Ashland to win the Triple Crown since 1985 and the first to win a NE crown. She placed third at Nationals. Quitt also participated in track and field for the Clockers.

    Kate Sams, Westborough

    The senior captained both the basketball and lacrosse teams and was named a Mid-Wach League All-Star in basketball, where she averaged 14.2 points, 5.9 rebounds. She also played soccer in the fall and scored 54 lacrosse goals.

    Sasha Tracey, Franklin

    The Hockomock League basketball All-Star and senior averaged 14 points per game and was a setter on the volleyball team.

    Charlotte Tuxbury, Wellesley

    The junior ran the top indoor mile time in the state (4:56.35) at the indoor track Meet of Champions, where she also paired with her sister as Wellesley won the 4x800 relay. At the outdoor M of C, Tuxbury placed second in the mile and fourth in the 800. She also won the mile and 2-mile at the Division 1 meet.

    Emma Tuxbury, Wellesley

    After the sophomore placed tenth at both the Division 1 and All-States meets during cross country in the fall, she switched over to indoor track where she was part of two winning relay teams at the Division 2 championships. In the spring, she placed eighth at the in the D2 mile.
