Women's Basketball Third in WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll
Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team checked in third in the 2023-24 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls, as announced by the WBCA on Wednesday, July 24. The Black Bears finished third among NCAA Division I members with a 3.856 cumulative team grade point average.
Maine waterworks company EJ Prescott opens new location in Caribou
CARIBOU, Maine — A water and sewer parts and service company with longtime ties to Aroostook recently launched its first location there. EJ Prescott opened a new warehouse and parts center at 59 York St. in Caribou in May and celebrated with a grand opening Wednesday. The Caribou store is EJ Prescott’s fourth in Maine and first time that the company has expanded its physical presence north of Bangor.
CRITTER CHATTER: A new chapter at Duck Pond Wildlife Care Center
As noted in last month’s article, rehabber Don Cote at Duck Pond Wildlife Care Center was hospitalized for a week in late May. I’m relieved and happy to report that his recovery at home is going well and as we expected, it didn’t take long before he started taking calls about orphaned and injured critters. In fact, we recently purchased a new answering machine with a volume enhancer so he doesn’t miss any!
Anson Scout achieves Eagle rank
Nick Gower, of Anson, received the Eagle Scout rank, the highest award in Scouting, during a ceremony held on July 13 at the Garret Schenck School. His Eagle Scout project was a benefit to the American Legion. OXFORD, Maine — A woman from Norway died after a crash on Route 26 in Oxford. Police say Trudy Giroux, 65, was leaving the parking lot of the Irving gas station just before 9 a.m. to head north on Route 26 when she pulled into the path of a pickup truck headed south.

Crossroads Holdings Underway on $300 Million Mixed-Use Project Near Portland, Maine
Scarborough, Maine — Developer Crossroads Holdings LLC is underway on the development of Town Center, a $300 mixed-use project located in Scarborough, roughly 10 miles southwest of Portland. Situated within The Downs — a larger, 577-acre redevelopment of a former horseracing complex — the project will include 320,000 square feet of retail space, 60,000 square feet of medical office space, 240 residential units and a boutique hotel, as well as various open green spaces. Construction began last fall. Wilder Cos. has partnered with Crossroads to manage marketing and leasing initiatives for the retail and restaurant space at the property, in collaboration with locally based brokerage firm The Boulos Co.
