The seventh annual nature photo contest for the Upper Delaware area, hosted by the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, is underway.

Photographers, both adults and those under 18, are welcome to submit entries online between Aug. 1 and 31. Both professional and amateur photographers are welcome.

Pictures taken of the natural world should be among the following five categories: landscape, wildlife, macro, water and pictures taken at the Van Scott Nature Reserve.

"Without disturbing or harming any creature or its habitat, photographers are encouraged to be creative in showcasing the diverse wildlife, plants, and special places of our region," Bethany Zarnowski, director of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, stated in the press release.

Photo submissions will be judged on "creativity, originality, composition, clarity and quality, and impact," the release states. Entries must have been taken in the Upper Delaware River region and may be from any season of the year.

The Conservancy has been headquartered at the Van Scott Nature Reserve on Perkins Pond Road, Beach Lake, since 2020. The former farm is open to the public daily for hiking its marked trails and discovering nature along the way. Rolling meadows, woodlands and wetlands make up the landscape.

A panel of judges will decide on the winning photographs, as well as a People's Choice award. The press release lists the photo contest judges to be Mary Sue Sweeney Price, Nancy Kiesendahl Bloch, Marie Liu and Alessandra Maria Iavarone.

Pictures selected are to be displayed at the ARTery gallery, 210 Broad St., Milford, this November.

Up to two pictures may be submitted by any one entrant. Those entering must adhere to the official contest rules listed online and submit a $15 entry fee, the release states. There is no fee for the youth category.
