Titans drop two games at Bethel to begin the season
MISHAWAKA, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (0-2,0-0 CCAC) fell in both matches of the Bethel Tri-Match, losing game one to Siena Heights in four sets by scores of 11-25, 23-25, 25-21, and 17-25. IU South Bend dropped game two to Bethel University in straight sets by scores of 18-25, 12-25, and 21-25. The Titans struggled early out of the gates dropping set one by double digits before losing by just two points in set two 23-25. IU South Bend rallied to take set three 25-21 before ultimately losing the match in four sets, dropping set four 17-25. Indiana University South Bend continued action at 7:00 PM when they took on Bethel University, dropping game two in three sets by scores 18-25, 12-25, and 21-25.
Nevada felon sentenced for firearm possession in South Bend
A man from Nevada has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in South Bend after pleading guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, Fort Wayne Police officers were sent to a fast-food restaurant on the report of a man with a gun. Joseph Quinones, 31, of Reno, was so upset he couldn’t order lunch items during the breakfast hours, he displayed a firearm and threatened employees.

Unemployment rates continue to climb in Lake, Porter counties
Slightly more Northwest Indiana residents are looking for work, but fewer appear to be finding jobs. Lake County's July unemployment rate was 6.6 percent, compared to 5.9 percent the month before, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Porter County's rate increased to 5.1 from 4.6 percent. Compared to the same period last year, both counties' unemployment rates were more than a percentage point higher.
