Franklin Theatre to host Morton-Brittain House fundraiser concert Aug. 12
The Franklin Theatre will host a concert fundraiser benefiting the continued restoration of the Nolensville's historic Morton-Brittain House on Aug. 12. The “There's No Place Like Home” event will feature Broadway star Ginna Claire Mason, known for her role as Glinda in national touring productions of Wicked, as well as other special music guests including Laura Osness, Christy Nockles, Clark Beckham, Allison Bailey and Melissa Steadman.
Historic Grant Boosts Digital Access to Martin Van Buren’s Papers at Cumberland University
Cumberland University recently announced that it received a grant of $125,000 from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission for the Papers of Martin Van Buren (PMVB) project. The funds will continue to support the creation of digital and print editions of the Van Buren papers, which are making approximately 14,000 documents belonging to the eighth president accessible.
Popular restaurant chain to open 92 locations in Walmart stores
Mr Gatti’s Pizza, a Texas-based pizza restaurant chain, is partnering with Walmart to open 92 store locations across four states. The partnership will bring Mr Gatti’s Pizza to Walmart locations in Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Mr Gatti’s will open 12 of the 92 planned locations by the end of this year in south Oklahoma and north Texas, according to a news release.

Lipscomb Women’s Soccer Adds Elisa Swanson as Assistant Coach
Elisa Swanson, a native of Ottawa, ON, joins the Lipscomb’s Women’s Soccer coaching staff in May of 2024. Prior to her arrival in Nashville, Swanson spent one season as the assistant coach at St. Bonaventure University, after spending three seasons on staff at Messiah University. While on staff at Messiah, Swanson helped lead the program to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 in 2021 and a Final Four bid in 2022.
Mother Charged in Drowning of Child in Hendersonville
On July 13, 2024, the Hendersonville Police Department was notified of a child that had drowned in Drakes Creek near 200 Sanders Ferry Rd in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Detectives responded to investigate and determined that the child’s mother, Brandi Elliott (33), was responsible for the child’s death. Elliott was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder and transported to the Sumner County Jail.
