It will take at least two weeks to clear all the downed trees on area roadways. Director of Public Works for Joliet, Greg Ruddy says city crews have been working through the night to clear debris from roads. Ruddy says if you see a tree on the road in Joliet you can call 815 724-3650. But if the tree is on your property, it’s your responsibly to remove it. Ruddy says there are quite a few trees down, about three times the amount they had following Sunday’s storms. No fatalities from last night’s storm in Joliet but one person died after a semi-trailer went down an embankment on eastbound I-80 at Kedzie.
Driver killed after semi flips off of I-80: ISP
According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred shortly in the eastbound lanes of I-80. A truck-tractor semi-trailer veered off the road, fell down an embankment and then overturned on to Kedzie Avenue. He died at the scene.

Earthquake Shakes Illinois: Shocking Footage Inside (Video)
A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern Illinois early this morning. The earthquake occurred a little before 3 a.m. in Southern DeKalb County, near the town of Somonauk. The earthquake was felt in various locations including Winthrop Harbor, Cary, and Yorkville. Heather and Cory were awakened by the quake, initially mistaking it for a storm. Marcia in Winthrop Harbor reported feeling her house shake. A resident in Cary noticed the loud and rumbly noise, distinguishing it from thunder. Dan in Yorkville also felt the earthquake.

Leeward Renewable Energy’s GSG Wind Project built 26 new turbines and recycled 100% of decommissioned wind turbines, adding numerous clean energy jobs in Illinois. The GSG Wind project, which stretches across 3,000 acres near West Brooklyn, Illinois, became commercially operational in 2007. Multi-vehicle crash in DeKalb Co. sends 2 to hospital
DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - Two people are in the hospital after a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning near Waterman. Just after 4:30 a.m. July 16, DeKalb County deputies were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 23 and Watson Road. According to the sheriff’s office, one vehicle one veered out of their lane and hit two vehicles traveling southbound. The first vehicle hit the front-end of a second vehicle and clipped the the front right side of the third vehicle.

With Interstate 55 Closure, Intermodals Have To Logistically Navigate Reroutes
Interstate 55 is going to be closed for quite some time, and for some entities, that doesn’t mean they can just relax. Trucks keep the world moving. CenterPoint, the closest intermodal to the I-55 and Arsenal Road interchange, is having to shift their focus from using I-55, to navigating over to I-80 as a bypass. Spokesman Mike Noonan said “we’re not aware of any operations impact at Joliet/Elwood due to the storm. The Houbolt Road Extension is operating normally and likely seeing an uptick in volume.”

Monday evening, July 15, the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for DuPage County. Outdoor sirens rang. Cell phones sounded alerts. Television programming was interrupted repeatedly with loud blasts, followed by messages regarding the possibility of “severe thunderstorms capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage.”
