Dekalb Man Rescued from Starved Rock
A man from Dekalb is in the hospital after falling at Starved Rock. The 76 year old was hiking La Salle Canyon Wednesday afternoon when he lost his balance and tumbled 25 feet into the creek below. Utica, Oglesby and Wallace first responders used ropes to pull the man out of the creek and get him to the river. Ottawa River Rescue carried him safely to shore. He was then taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa. Conservation Sergeant Phil Wire said the man was scraped and bruised from tumbling 4 times during his fall, but he was alert and conscious. No charges are expected.
