HERMOSA — Northwest Siders are pushing for a new ordinance that would protect housing in the rapidly gentrifying area, hoping to keep more longtime families in their homes. The Northwest Preservation Ordinance, introduced to the City Council Wednesday, proposes a permanent law to better protect two-, three- and four-flats in parts of Hermosa, Logan Square, Avondale, West Town and Humboldt Park. Those areas have seen the highest rate of gentrification and displacement of longtime families in the past decade in Chicago.

Thankfully, electricity is back on for most of Coal City as ComEd crews worked non-stop to repair a major power line that fell onto Interstate 55 around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Homeowners north of Division Street got their power back shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday. By 1 p.m., 120 of 2,720 customers had their power back on.

St. Charles, Ill. — Quantum Real Estate Advisors Inc. has arranged the $8.5 million sale of a 47,000-square-foot retail center in St. Charles, approximately 40 miles west of Chicago. At the time of sale, the property was 97 percent leased to tenants including Syrup, Consume Cannabis, CD One Price and La Huerta Market.
