O'Fallon, Illinois, bakery and restaurant to close, up for sale
O'FALLON, Ill. — A bakery and restaurant in Metro East plans to close near the end of the year, and the building and fixtures are up for sale. The Happy Bakery’s last day of operation is currently scheduled for Dec. 23, owner and chef Charlie Cook posted Wednesday on Facebook. The vegan bakery in O’Fallon, Illinois, began as an online Etsy operation in 2014 and adapted into a custom-order cakery, then a bakery with a brick-and-mortar storefront at 102 W. Sixth St. in downtown O’Fallon. In 2020, the bakery added a restaurant.

Centennial Malt House building, site of the former Vin de Set restaurant, is under new ownership
The Centennial Malt House building (2017 Chouteau)—former home to Hamilton Hospitality's Vin de Set, PW Pizza, 21st Street Brewer’s Bar, and Moulin Events—never reopened after being damaged by a fire in September 2022. The company put the building up for sale shortly thereafter. Last week, Malt House Lofts, LLC, acquired the property. The majority owner is St. Louisan Rich Conyers, a principal at BOTI Architecture, which has an office in Lafayette Square.

Woman Arrested for Allegedly Striking Nurse in Paragould
PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Missouri woman is accused of twice striking a nurse this week in Paragould, and now she faces a felony charge. On August 14, 2024, officers were dispatched to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould in reference to an unruly patient, according to the probable cause affidavit. Officers arrived and were told the suspect had tried to punch a nurse but only grazed her. The initial victim said she just wanted to document the incident and did not want to have her arrested.
