Suzanne Goode will improve Rehoboth Beach
Rehoboth Beach is in trouble. Our current leadership in Rehoboth Beach is moribund and removed from the citizens. The board makes one unwise decision after another. From the outrageous compensation package for our new city manager, making him one of the highest-compensated public servants in all of America, to losing control of one-third of the city’s beaches due to not wanting to pay a reasonable $10,000 the state requested, to now considering taking significant additional effluent from Sussex County to be discharged off our beaches, the city is on a roll, making one bad decision after another. These decisions are taken with no consideration of what the residents of Rehoboth Beach want. There seems to be no interest on the part of current leadership in even hearing what citizens have to say.

At the beach? Well, ya gotta eat!
The week of July Fourth is the quintessential “summer at the beach” moment. And nobody knows that better than our local restaurants, bars, food trucks, carryouts … you name it, we’re ready! What was once an off-season ghost town is now a year-round culinary destination. The Zagat guide, the prestigious James Beard Foundation, Food Network, the National Restaurant Association and even Netflix – just to name a few – have acknowledged the talents of our Cape Region food industry. Even the word “summer” in Nation’s Summer Capital is beginning to get a little long in the tooth as hungry diners cruise Rehoboth Avenue from October to March in search of a parking spot.
Talk of Delmarva Fishing Report 07/04/24
The forecast for Wednesday was good so I was up at 4:00 and on the beach just south of Herring Point a little after 5:00 a.m. What a beautiful morning! Light fog hugging the water and no wind and no bugs. I only fished one rod with FishBites baited hooks and for the most part I held on to it. I had a few bites and I caught a critter I had never seen before. Turns out it was a striped cusk eel. And a young one at that.

Independence Day underway: Photos from Berlin’s fireworks show Wednesday
The Town of Berlin kicked off Fourth of July festivities early last night with a fireworks show that vendor SkyShooter Displays set off from Heron Park. The colorful blasts, which could be seen from most places in town, lit up the clear night sky as the perfect precursor for today’s holiday celebrations throughout the rest of the area — which include two fireworks shows in Ocean City and a celebration and fireworks in Ocean Pines. This year’s show in Berlin was a little different than years past because spectators could not watch from the grounds of the park due to the ongoing demolition of the Tyson poultry plant. However plenty of people were able to enjoy the holiday celebration because of how high the fireworks were blast into the air.
