Urban Dreams requests community support as it hosts final youth programs of summer
Urban Dreams, a Des Moines-based community center, is asking for community support in connection with its youth summer program events, which are wrapping up this month. Community members are invited to the last Summer City Hoops, which features free food and basketball games, at 4 p.m. today at Evelyn K. Davis Park. The final Community Courtyard event is scheduled for 4 p.m. July 31 at 1410 Sixth Ave. In a letter to the community, Urban Dreams Executive Director Izaah Knox wrote that community events like these offer alternatives to “disruptive behaviors” for young people. Knox also called on nonprofits, businesses and individuals to consider ways to engage local youths. “Urban Dreams has been at the forefront of providing weekly Community Connectivity events and programs aimed at entertainment, positive engagement for everyone, and redirecting the energy of our youth toward positive activities,” Knox wrote. “However, the scale of this task is immense, and we cannot do it alone. Veridian’s relocated Prairie Trail branch is now open
Veridian Credit Union has relocated its Prairie Trail branch from inside Ankeny’s Prairie Trail Hy-Vee store to a newly constructed standalone branch located at 2115 S.W. State St. The new 3,400-square-foot branch, which re-opened Tuesday, offers four exterior lanes and expanded lobby and office space. “We have a long history of partnering with Hy-Vee for in-store Veridian branch locations, and we’re grateful for that partnership,” said Shelly McGill, Veridian’s central Iowa regional manager. “Shifting our Prairie Trail branch to a standalone location allows us to add drive-up access and more interior space to provide an improved member experience.” Veridian has 10 locations in the Des Moines metro area, including two located inside Hy-Vee stores in Ankeny and Des Moines.

PELLA—For the second year in a row, Jacob Moffett (senior, Mount Pleasant) was named a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America. To be eligible for selection, an NCAA Division III player must be a sophomore, junioror senior, participate in at least half of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 and a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher. Hope Ministries holding free ‘Meet the Mission’ event this Saturday
