Guided birding and boating offered at Montezuma
Launching from Rivers Crossing Campground & Marina (508 State Route 89, Savannah, NY 13146), kayakers will experience the wetlands habitats of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex! No prior kayaking experience is required as they will be going over basic strokes and paddling techniques before getting in the water. Participants are welcome to bring their own kayak and gear but are also welcome to rent their gear on site. Binoculars will be provided to see the Great Blue Herons elegantly taking off, Bald Eagles soaring above, and Osprey perched in the surrounding trees.

Rolison’s free paper shred event returns this month

In partnership with Hudson Valley Credit Union, a Legal Shred mobile shredding and disposal vehicle will accept documents and other paper products at these locations on the following dates: John Jay High School, 2012 Route 52, Hopewell Junction on Saturday, August 17th; and the Newburgh Mall parking lot, 1401 Route 300, Town of Newburgh, on Saturday, August 24th.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Sunday is the last day Central New Yorkers can fly Southwest Airlines out of Syracuse. The announcement in April came as Southwest says it lost at least $231-million dollars in the first quarter of 2024. Southwest says it expects to end the year with two thousand few employees and with fewer deliveries of new planes. Southwest's CEO says the airline is working quickly to address financial failures and return to profitability.

Two of the most selective colleges in the nation during the 2022-2023 school year were located in New York state. Columbia University in New York City was the sixth-most selective college in the U.S. last year with an admissions rate of 3.95%, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics. That made it the most selective college in New York.
