A U.S. rower’s path to gold took him through Central New York
ITHACA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The journey for gold takes years, and for Mike Grady, a rower for Team USA, his path took him through Cornell. “When you meet him, he can look you square in the eye, and he’s just as charismatic as he can possibly be. Great smile, great hello, he remembers your name and he make you feel really good. He’s a great person,” Todd Kennett, the head coach of Cornell’s heavy weight rowing squad, said.
Local SNAP recipients can now get a dollar-for-dollar match on frozen produce purchases
A program which lets Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients stretch their benefits has expanded to include frozen produce. The Double Up Food Bucks program is a state initiative where SNAP recipients receive a dollar-to-dollar match on purchases of fresh food up to $20 a day. The program, entering its third year, is funded by $2 million in state dollars and a matching amount in federal funds. This year, it also received $880,000 from the city, which came from a pool of federal COVID relief dollars.

Postal delivery worker accused of stealing checks in the mail while working
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — A Rochester man was arrested in Canandaigua after deputies say he stole checks in the mail while working for the postal delivery service. Ontario County deputies say they arrested Sekou Diakate on July 31 — saying their investigation showed Diakate had been stealing checks since 2023. Diakate was brought to Ontario County Jail while he awaits his arraignment.

Man Killed in Yates County Crash

Burdett man sentenced for arson, burglary
WATKINS GLEN, NY (CortacaToday) – A Burdett man faces up to 6 years in State Prison. Zane Seubert, 46, was sentenced in Schuyler County last month on felony arson and burglary charges.
