Milton’s boys golf team won the silver Team Academic All-State Award from the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin, the organization announced Sunday.

The award was established to recognize the teams with the highest team GPAs in the state. The three highest team GPAs in divisions 1, 2 and 3 earned gold, silver and bronze team awards.

Milton, with a varsity fivesome of Brett Wieland, Kade Wieland, Tyler Birkhimer, Michael Axe and Jace Gray, claimed the silver award in Division 1 behind Madison La Follette and ahead of Sun Prairie West.

The school will receive a certificate to note the team’s accomplishment. All teams with a cumulative team GPA of 3.25 or better earned honorable mention.

    Edgerton coach honored

Terry Dickinson, the Edgerton High boys golf coach, was named the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin’s coach of the year in Division 2.

The Crimson Tide overwhelmed its Rock Valley Conference opponents on a weekly basis in cruising to another league championship. They then won regional and sectional titles en route to the Division 2 state tournament, where they finished second in the team standings.

The Division 2 individual championship was decided by a playoff between two of Dickinson’s players, Caleb Kern and Cameron Lee. Kern became Edgerton’s fifth individual state champion and was also named first-team all-state by the coaches association.
