See the new Southridge Boston Store redevelopment concept
Barrett Lo Visionary Development on Tuesday revealed new plans for a mixed-use development at the former Boston Store at Southridge Mall.<\p> The four-phase project was designed by the Chicago office of national design firm KTGY and includes 675 market-rate apartments in mid-rise structures with up to 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The buildings would surround a village green area, Barrett Lo said in a press release.<\p>
'Top Chef' names winner of season filmed in Milwaukee
Milwaukee’s Dan Jacobs was a “Top Chef” runner-up in Season 21 of the world-renowned Bravo television series. <\p> Danny Garcia, of New York City, won the season and took home the $250,000 grand prize, as revealed during the finale episode that aired Wednesday night.<\p>

Sprecher Brewing Co. CEO Sharad Chadha has a vision for the brewery he purchased in 2020, and expansion is at the center of it.<\p> That's why the Glendale-based operation keeps adding brands and buildings to its portfolio, even if they are outside its beer and soda roots. Last week, Sprecher announced it acquired a minority stake in the sports hydration company, O2 Hydration, an Ohio-based company that makes the "oxygenated sports drink." A creative twist on a common form of public financing under consideration by the city could help pay for the construction of 74 affordable homes in Milwaukee — and potentially hundreds more in the future. <\p> The city this week is considering a new $2.34 million tax incremental district (TID) that would support the $19.9 million project on vacant city lots in the Midtown neighborhood near King Park. Milwaukee's Community Development Alliance is coordinating the effort, which includes 40 duplex units developed by Emem Group LLC and 34 single-family homes by Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. <\p>

Under a succession plan put in place four years ago, Mark Hasting will be promoted from president and chief commerce and operating officer to president and CEO of the Blain's Farm & Fleet retail chain, succeeding owner Jane Blain Gilbertson as top executive.<\p> Blain Gilbertson will assume a new role as executive chair of the board. She will remain sole owner of the Janesville-based Blain’s Farm & Fleet and Blain Supply Inc.<\p>
Mader's books high-profile Republican governor during RNC
Historic Mader’s German Restaurant, which is one block from Fiserv Forum, has been booked during the Republican National Convention by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s political action committee, according to permit applications filed with the city of Milwaukee.<\p> Meanwhile, vacant office space at a Northwestern Mutual building downtown may be involved in security efforts during the convention. <\p>
Pill & Puff store to close at 330 Kilbourn complex
A small store believed to be the last to carry the Pill & Puff name in the Milwaukee area will close its doors as well as a retail chapter that started in the city nearly 60 years ago.<\p> Store owner Nabeel Wahhab plans to close the 700-square-foot location on July 2 inside the 330 Kilbourn office complex, where Wahhab has owned and operated the business since 2007, according to his son, Michael Wahhab, who spoke on his father's behalf in an interview.<\p>
African American Leadership Alliance CEO steps down
The African American Leadership Alliance of Milwaukee said Tuesday that Walter Lanier is stepping down as president and CEO of the organization, with Angela Adams stepping in to lead operations on an interim basis.<\p> The African American Leadership Alliance Milwaukee, known as AALAM, was founded in May 2017 and serves as a cross-sector network of leaders and allies dedicated to developing and supporting Milwaukee's African American talent pool. Lanier has led the alliance since February 2022.<\p>
Low-cost airline to stop charging economy flyers for carry-ons
One of the discount airlines serving Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, JetBlue Airways Corp., said it will no longer charge its Blue Basic economy fare buyers to bring a carry-on bag starting Sept. 6.<\p> Previously, the New York City-based carrier (Nasdaq: JBLU) required Blue Basic flyers to upgrade to a more expensive fare to bring a carry-on. Until Sept. 6, Blue Basic passengers are still limited to a personal item that fits under the seat in front of them.<\p>
American Family Insurance CIO exec in Milwaukee leaving company
An American Family Insurance executive based in Milwaukee is on the move.<\p> Sheldon Cuffie, who has served in the chief information officer and chief information security officer roles at Madison-based American Family Insurance for the last four years, announced in a LinkedIn post that he is stepping down from the property and casualty insurer and taking time off before his "next great adventure."<\p>
Johnson Controls selling a business to private equity firm
Johnson Controls International plans to sell its Air Distribution Technologies business, which it acquired in 2014 for $1.6 billion, for an undisclosed amount to Los Angeles private equity firm Truelink Capital.<\p> Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI) chairman and CEO George Oliver, who is based at corporate offices in Glendale, said the pending sale "is the next step as we continue to simplify our portfolio and advance our transformation into a comprehensive solutions provider for commercial buildings.”<\p>
WISN-TV adds new morning weekend news anchor
Duke Carter developed a passion for storytelling from a young age. After watching "The Oprah Winfrey Show," Carter discovered his interest in meeting and talking with new people and he authored and self-published his own book titled "Treasure of Gold" when he was just 14. Now, Carter will bring those talents to Milwaukee.<\p> WISN-TV (Channel 12) announced Carter as the station’s new weekend morning news anchor Tuesday. Carter will work alongside meteorologist Molly Bernard on “WISN 12 News This Morning” from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. He will also report for the station throughout the week in addition to his anchor duties.<\p>
Racine and Mount Pleasant to huddle on Foxconn-related dispute
The village of Mount Pleasant and the city of Racine are set to meet this week to begin ironing out a dispute about utility agreements related to the Foxconn Technology Group and Microsoft Corp. developments in the village. <\p> Mount Pleasant has received water and wastewater services from Racine for years but says the city has violated the terms of those utility contracts and is withholding water service for new developments. <\p>

Zillow, MLSs in Milwaukee and Phoenix reach preliminary settlement
Real estate tech company Zillow Group Inc. has reached a preliminary settlement in an antitrust suit it filed in December.<\p> Seattle-based Zillow (Nasdaq: ZG), which filed the lawsuit Dec. 22, 2023, alleges Phoenix-area Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service (ARMLS) and Milwaukee-area Metro MLS, along with the consortium MLS Aligned are trying to stop agents from using Zillow's platform ShowingTime, which allows agents to schedule and manage listings.<\p>
Old Milwaukee N.A. to be sponsor on IndyCar at Milwaukee Mile
As Milwaukee gears up for its first IndyCar event since 2015, one of the city’s namesake beer brands will be featured on one of the cars.<\p> Juncos Hollinger Racing of Indianapolis announced a partnership with Old Milwaukee Non-Alcoholic as the official beer partner of its NTT IndyCar Series team. The deal will also feature a national campaign with the team’s INDY NXT driver Lindsay Brewer. Old Milwaukee is owned by Pabst Brewing Co.<\p>
Eleanor Room brings small plate dining to one-time Greendale malt shop
Transforming a space that housed a former malt shop and then a diner into a sophisticated, small plate restaurant in downtown Greendale became an investment that Jason and Kelly Cyborowski eagerly made when they put down an estimated $1 million-plus into realizing their dream of The Eleanor Room.<\p> Customers of the previous occupant, Milk Can Diner, which closed in October of 2023, and its predecessor, Ferch’s Malt Shop & Grille, might only recognize the bar’s shape as a memory of times past but even that was rebuilt along with most of the space at 5636 Broad St.<\p>
Push to oust Southwest Airlines CEO has Milwaukee ally
A Milwaukee-based investment management firm whose clients hold nearly 11 million shares of Southwest Airlines stock joined activist investor Elliott Investment Management in seeking the ouster of Southwest CEO Bob Jordan and a shakeup of the airline’s board.<\p> Artisan Partners said its global value investment team has communicated over the past several months with Southwest’s executive chairman Gary Kelly about “many of the same points” raised by Elliott Investment.<\p>
