The housing market continues to heat up.
Between June 2020 and June 2024, the median price of a home sold in Wisconsin rose more than $100,000, according to real estate brokerage Redfin , the Journal Sentinel reported this week. In just the past year, Wisconsin home prices have risen 8.2%, Redfin found.
Demand for homes remains high, too, especially in certain areas of the country. On Monday, Realtor.com released its list of the top 50 "Hottest ZIP Codes" in the U.S. in 2024, and Wisconsin communities in the Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Oshkosh and Janesville areas made the list.
In determining its rankings, Realtor analyzed data from listings on its site between January and June 2024. The real estate listing site measured how many unique viewers visited properties in each ZIP code on its site and the average number of days properties remained on the market in each ZIP code. Realtor then compared these numbers with the national averages to determine which areas of the country attract the most viewers and have the fastest-selling homes ― indicators of high interest and limited supply.
Realtor found that the nation's hottest ZIP codes primarily fall in the Midwest and Northeast, in communities with a lower median home price or lower median price per square foot than the national average, or relative to their surrounding metropolitan area. According to Realtor, the median home price in the U.S. in June was $445,000, and the median price per square foot was $233.
