    Things are cooling down in Milwaukee with storms possible Thursday and Friday

    After two days of near-record-breaking heat and intense humidity , things are finally cooling down in Milwaukee today.

    According to the National Weather Service forecast , Wednesday's high temperature is expected to peak at just 74 degrees in the city of Milwaukee and at 78 in areas of the county further from Lake Michigan. This puts Milwaukee much more in line with its average late-August high temperature of 79 degrees.

    On Monday and Tuesday, Milwaukee recorded peak temperatures of 94 degrees, with heat indices making things feel about 100. According to State Climatology Office data , these days, along with June 17 and 18, recorded the city's hottest temperatures so far in 2024. The hottest-ever recorded August temp in Milwaukee history was 103 degrees on Aug. 1, 1988.

    What's the weather like the rest of this week in Milwaukee?

    As we head into Labor Day weekend, temperatures are expected to remain mild for the rest of the week, with highs in the mid-to-high 70s and low 80s.

    Showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday night into Friday morning, with chances highest between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday.

    The weekend is forecasted to be mostly clear and dry, with a high of around 80 degrees on Saturday and in the low-to-mid 70s on Sunday. Labor Day is expected to be sunny and rain-free, with a cooler-than-normal high near 70.
