    Prepare for these Wisconsin road closures and delays during Labor Day weekend

    Drivers can expect slower traffic during the upcoming Labor Day weekend in major travel corridors and construction zones, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

    WisDOT is temporarily pausing most construction projects this weekend, but there are still major road construction projects affecting drivers across the state.

    Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024.

    When are busiest travel times during Labor Day weekend 2024?

    Peak travel times are expected between the following times, according to AAA :

    • Thursday (Aug. 29): 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Friday (Aug. 30): 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Monday (Sept. 2): 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    What construction projects impact Labor Day 2024 travel in Wisconsin?

    According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, here's a list of construction projects impacting Labor Day travel in southeastern Wisconsin. Click here for a full list of construction projects across Wisconsin.

    • Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties: Drivers should expect intermittent ramp and street closures in certain segments along I-43 between Glendale and Grafton .
    • Milwaukee County: Expect various ramp closures and single lane closures along I-43 between Capitol Drive and the Marquette Interchange.
    • Milwaukee County : Drivers will have at least two lanes of travel open in each direction on I-894 between the Mitchell Interchange and 84th Street. The on and off-ramps at WIS 36 (Loomis Road) are closed.
    • Milwaukee County : WIS 32 (North Lake Drive), between Newberry Boulevard and Edgewood Avenue is closed for reconstruction.
    • Racine County: Drivers can expect the intersection of WIS 11 and County J near the city of Burlington to be closed for roundabout construction. Detours follow WIS 11/36/83, WIS 142 and WIS 75.
    • Racine County: Expect the intersection of WIS 75 and County A , northeast of Burlington, to be closed for roundabout construction. Detours are via WIS 20, US 45 and WIS 11.
    • Walworth and Racine counties: Expect WIS 20 , between East Troy and Waterford, to be closed to through traffic for a bridge replacement and resurfacing project. Detours are via WIS 83, I-43 and WIS 120.
    • Walworth County: US 12 , between WIS 20 and the WIS 67/US 12 split, north of the city of Elkhorn, is closed to through traffic for a resurfacing and bridge replacement project. Detours are via WIS 20, I-43 and WIS 67.
    • Walworth County: Drivers can expect WIS 36 , between the city of Burlington and the city of Lake Geneva, to be closed to through traffic for bridge replacement project. Detours follow WIS 11, WIS 83, WIS 50, US 12 and WIS 120.
    • Washington County: Expect US 45 (Fond du Lac Avenue) to be closed to through traffic between westbound County H and westbound WIS 28 in the village of Kewaskum. Detours are via WIS 67 and I-43.

    Gas prices are down after oil prices dipped globally in the last month, according to USA TODAY. According to AAA: here are prices for regular, unleaded gas in Wisconsin cities as of Aug. 28:

    • Appleton: $3.18, down from $3.21 a week ago
    • Eau Claire: $3.18, up from $3.13 a week ago
    • Fond du Lac: $3.16, down from $3.24 a week ago
    • Green Bay: $3.20, down from $3.25 a week ago
    • Kenosha County: $3.31, down from $3.40 a week ago
    • La Crosse: $3.15, down from $3.18 a week ago
    • Madison: $3.32, down from $3.39 a week ago
    • Milwaukee-Waukesha: $3.22, down from $3.35 a week ago
    • Oshkosh: $3.25, down from $3.31 a week ago
    • Racine: $3.23, down from $3.45 a week ago
    • Wausau: $3.22, down from $3.25 a week ago
    • Sheboygan: $3.25, down from $3.28 a week ago
