Milwaukee police are searching for a teen who they say shot and killed two St. Anthony High School students last month on the city's south side.

Prosecutors have filed two counts of first-degree intentional homicide against Moses Martinez in the shooting deaths of Diego Herrera-Mejia, 16, and Isaac Rodriguez, 15. He also faces a charge of first-degree reckless endangering safety.

An arrest warrant for Martinez, 17, was issued June 25, online court records show. He remained at-large Monday afternoon.

Milwaukee police say in a criminal complaint Diego and Isaac, friends since middle school, were shot to death June 15 on the 800 block of West Manitoba Street.

Family members said the two teens were walking with a few friends and cousins on Manitoba when "some guys on a scooter" came up to them and tried to provoke them.

Isaac was pronounced dead at the scene. Diego died later that night at a local hospital, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.

The boys were set to begin their sophomore year together in the fall at St. Anthony High School, on Milwaukee's south side.

A 14-year-old girl also sustained a nonfatal injury.

There have been 62 homicides reported in the city of Milwaukee so far in 2024 , compared with 74 reported during the same period last year, according to Milwaukee police statistics.

There have been 10 homicides involving those 17 and younger, and 36 nonfatal shootings of victims in that age group since January, according to Milwaukee police.

In 2023, there were 24 child homicides in Milwaukee, and 27 reported in 2022.
