Mass. Republicans head to Milwaukee

BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP)–The Republican National Convention, which will determine the official Republican nominee for president and vice president, kicked off Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Massachusetts delegates say the attempted assassination of former president, and presumed Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania just this weekend cast a dark shadow over an otherwise highly-anticipated event.

Mass G-O-P Chair Amy Carnevale and other prominent Massachusetts delegates say they hope this event will bring together people who do not tolerate political violence. Saturday’s scare seeming not to dampen delegate’s high spirits.

Despite enthusiasm inside protestors gathered outside of the convention center. These protestors are being kept away from the delegates. Back inside, former President Trump selected freshman Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his vice presidential candidate.

The “Hillbilly Elegy” author and a former self-proclaimed “never Trump” Republican is now a pro-Trump voice in Congress.

The Convention ending its first of two sessions Monday with the official nomination of the Republican candidate for president. Former President Trump’s son Eric announced that Florida delegates put him over the finish line.
