Authorities investigating officer-involved shooting in Ottawa County

The KBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Minneapolis, Kansas Saturday morning.

At approximately 8:25 a.m., the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and Minneapolis Police were dispatched to Markley Grove Park to investigate a report of shots fired when more shots rang out.

The Kansas Highway Patrol arrived on the scene to assist when the shooter, Artemis Thor Peck, 46, of Minneapolis, ran out of his residence. Peck fired in the direction of law enforcement and a surveillance drone. Officers on the scene returned fire, striking Peck multiple times. Peck was transported to the Salina Regional Health Center, where he underwent surgery. He will be flown to a Wichita hospital for more surgeries and is expected to survive.

In a statement, the KBI says they will conduct a thorough and independent investigation and will present the findings to the Ottawa County Attorney when completed.
