Ten more alleged Minneapolis gang members are facing federal changes after a joint investigation between the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department.

A longstanding gang know as the "10z and 20z" was said to be re-emerging out of the Venture Village neighborhood in South Minneapolis, tipping off law enforcement that the gang was active again.

"Many of the cases we have brought as part of this strategy involve the prosecution of gang members in North and South Minneapolis," U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Andrew Luger explained. "To date, we have charged over 70 gang members as part of this strategy. Today, we charge more."

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says while serving a warrant, police discovered of weapons and drugs.

"Officers recovered significant quantities of cash, crack-cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl," explains O'Hara. "There are also now 13 fewer illegal guns in circulation among convicted felons."

Luger says this effort is apart of an on going Federal Violent Crime Strategy that is related to the arrest of 45 other Minneapolis gang members last summer. He says once they knew about the increased activity from the 10z and 20z, they knew it was crucial to get these teb men off the streets.

"When MPD investigators saw just this beginning of the re emergence, we all jumped on it together," Luger said about the activity near Peavey Park on Franklin and Chicago Avenues.

The partnership, launched in 2022 , was meant to crack down on a major rise in violent crime in the city.

“This plague of violence cannot continue,” Luger said when it was announced. “We cannot normalize shootings, carjackings and other instances as part of our daily lives. It is causing far too much fear, too much pain and too much heartbreak for families and our community.”

There were 45 total indictments announced in May of 2023, plus an additional 14 in August .
