Minnesota Twins Top 15 Prospect Selected for AL All-Star Team

Despite spending the spring on the injured list , costing him more than a month of the season, Brooks Lee has rejoined St. Paul and he’s been nothing short of incredible since his return. Already a top Minnesota Twins prospect, his hype is entering the national stage, and for good reason.

In 19 games since being dropped into the Saints lineup in June, Lee has a 1.017 OPS, with a .333 batting average. What’s behind the OPS bump? Smacking FIVE doubles and blasting SIX home runs in just 119 plate appearances will boost a lot of things.

His success is a sight for sore eyes in the MN Twins front office. They needed to see their No. 2 prospect find his footing at Triple-A, after he posted just a .731 OPS in 38 games last summer, following a late-season promotion from Double-A Wichita, and he has delivered.

Brooks Lee will represent the Minnesota Twins in the Futures Game

So later this month, Brooks Lee will get rewarded for such an absurd start to his season. Tuesday, the 23-year-old Cal Poly alum was named to the American League futures roster for MLB All-Star Weekend on July 13.

The AL Futures vs NL Futures format is new, a change from what was formerly a USA vs World contest. The Mid-Summer Classic is being held in Arlington, at Globe Life Park this year.

Not only will Lee participate in the All-Star game, but he will be in the hitting competition during the inaugural Futures Skills Showcase afterward. Major League Baseball defined the three rounds of showcase challenges as, “inspired by fan-favorite baseball video games past and present” . Lee won’t be participating in any futures games, after this year. That’s because the No. 13 ranked prospect in baseball won’t be down on the Twins’ farm much longer. In fact, Lee could be promoted any day, depending on how much more firepower Rocco Baldelli wants in the big league infield.

When will we see Brooks Lee in a Minnesota Twins uniform?

Unfortunately, his call up probably won’t happen before the break, unless there is an injury or something unforeseen takes place on the Twins’ active roster.

Edouard Julien remains at Triple-A too, and isn’t necessarily playing well (.707 OPS). His recall back to the big leagues does not look imminent, so Lee’s eventual promotion may come down to how willing Rocco is to DFA Kyle Farmer, who has struggled to provide value on the field this season, despite how much he might bring off of it. The Twins are paying Farmer $6.3 million this season, the final year of a disappointing two-year deal.

Lee becomes the third Saints player selected to participate in an All-Star Futures Game. He joins Josh Winder, and since traded infielder, Spencer Steer. Way back in 2014, Kennys Vargas played in the Futures Game at Target Field.

He went from Double-A New Britain to playing at the big league level on August 1st. Lee could see a similar future ahead of him. Of course, his performance on July 13 won’t be the deciding factor in that decision.
