A one-year-old cat thrown from a 12th-floor balcony in Minneapolis has lived to tell the tale due to her "fighting spirit," according to the Home For Life Sanctuary on Facebook .

The tabby cat, Rue, has been healing well despite jaw and arm fractures since the fall on June 24. She is eating through a feeding tube and has attempted to walk again despite both her legs being in casts.

Rue was brought into the shelter after multiple witnesses , including a child, saw Rue falling off the balcony outside of the Parkview Apartments in the 1200 block of N. 12th Avenue and suspected she had been thrown off.

Despite this, police say the case has been closed with no arrests, according to a police report.

Surgeons believe that despite her jaw being broken, she does not need surgery due to the musculature of her face holding the jaw in place.

A unique solution has been crafted. Instead of traditional external fixation, they plan to work with a human dentist who will help bond her upper and lower canines on both sides of her jaw to allow it to heal.

Her dental appointment was set for Tuesday. The bonds will only be in place for a month, but she will still allow her mouth to open for feeding.

"She is still very sore and had full body x-rays last Thursday to be sure there was no damage to the internal organs or skeleton that might have been missed," the sanctuary said.
