Minnesota Twins infielder Jose Miranda has been on an historic run this week, tying a major league record with a hit in 12 consecutive at-bats.

He is just the fourth player in MLB history to reach that mark, and the first to do so since Walt Dropo in 1952. Pinky Higgins (1938) and Johnny Kling (1902) were the other two players to achieve it.

He continued that tear on Saturday afternoon with singles in the second and fourth innings against the Houston Astros to tie the record.

He was also hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, which does not go in the books as an official at-bat. Including that plate appearance, he reached base in 13 consecutive plate appearances.

His run came to an end in the bottom of the sixth inning when he flew out to left field.

Prior to that at-bat his previous 12 at-bats went as follows: single, double, single, double. single, double, single, double, home run, single, single, single.

During that stretch his batting average climbed from .297 all the way up to .328, placing him among the league leaders. He is a .274 hitter for his career, with this being by far the best stretch he has ever had in the majors.

The fact that only four players have done this in major league history makes it impressive enough. But with the other three instances all happening prior to 1952 – when the game looked and was played in dramatically different fashion than it is now – only adds to the impressiveness of his streak.
