Minneapolis will not be the new home of the Sundance Film Festival .

The festival, one of the world's most prestigious film festivals, announced the six finalist cities that could be its new home on Friday. Minneapolis, which put together a bid backed by many large local companies, is not among those finalists.

“We thank the Sundance Film Festival team for its interest in Minneapolis," Ben Johnson, Director of Arts & Cultural Affairs for the City of Minneapolis, said in a statement.

"While we are disappointed that Minneapolis is not advancing in the selection process, we know that our city is a nation-leading hub of arts and culture; that’s why we love to call it home. We will always search for ways to show off our vibrant and welcoming city."

Sundance, which has always been held in Park City, Utah, announced in January that it would accept proposals for a new hub beginning with its 2027 event.

The finalists include Atlanta, Ga., and Boulder, Colo., which have made their interest in hosting public. Other cities like Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louisville, Ky. are more surprising entries, as their bids haven't been quite as vocal.

The list is rounded out by Sante Fe, N.M., and a joint bid from Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, which would spread the festival across the two cities more than has been the case in the past.

Sundance will continue to be held in Park City through 2026.
