Minnesota Vikings haven't signed Dallas Turner yet. Is it time to panic?

The Minnesota Vikings are sure taking things down to the wire with their draft picks. The are set to have rookies report to training camp on Sunday, July 21st and quarterback J.J. McCarthy signed on the 19th.

As of the night of the 20th, edge rusher Dallas Turner has yet to sign his rookie contract. He is one of just two NFL Draft picks who have yet to sign with the 18th overall pick of the Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Amarius Mims.

Curiously, the Vikings have been yet to sign Turner. The rest of the Vikings draft class signed relatively early but the two first-round picks waited patiently. Why isn't Turner signed yet? There are a few potential reasons:

    • Signing bonus structure
    • Offset language

If Turner gets waived, the Vikings will be on the hook for the rest of his contract. Offset language would allow the Vikings to recoup some salary cap space when he signs with his new team. It's why quarterback Russell Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the league minimum this offseason.

With the deadline so close for Turner, it's getting too close for comfort and panic is starting to set in among the fanbase. Will the Vikings end up getting him signed in time? There is still time to make that happen and they will likely get it done.

It's completely fair to panic and be worried with less than 24 hours until rookies report, but practice doesn't begin for a few more days. They have time to get Turner signed before it becomes really impactful.
