The Minnesota Vikings turned over their roster at some key positions this offseason. While J.J. McCarthy made the quarterback switch noteworthy, Dallas Turner joined him as a first round pick. The new edge rusher appears pretty thank for his practice competition too.

Dallas Turner calls Minnesota Vikings tackle out

When the Minnesota Vikings decided to let Danielle Hunter walk, their edge rushing group took a hit. They responded by bringing in Johnathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel. First round pick Dallas Turner is among the new faces too. He is benefitting by squaring off against Christian Darrisaw. The recently extended left tackle is a tough matchup, and the rookie is learning that early.

Asked what it is like to go against Christian Darrisaw, Turner said, “I ain’t gonna lie, he hard. I know if I go against a guy like that in practice every day, the game’s going to be easy. You know, money man, that’s him for sure.” Turner went on to state that Darrisaw earned every bit of that payday and every day in practice Darrisaw is locking him up. When talking about the premise of iron sharpening iron, Turner said “I know he’s going to get me better every single day because I ain’t never seen a tackle like that.”

Minnesota Vikings need Dallas Turner early

The greater that Christian Darrisaw can help to develop Dallas Turner, the better. There have already been injury concerns regarding Van Ginkel this offseason. The rookie being an immediate option would be great to see. Turner went up against talented competition playing in the SEC. The NFL is a different animal than anything Alabama schedules.

It seems as though Turner has the right mindset when it comes to attacking practice on a daily basis. As the former Crimson Tide standout looks to substantiate his draft positioning, he could be among the best defensive rookies this season. If the Vikings are successful in hitting on both of their first round picks this year, they will be well set up into the future.
