    Minnesota restaurant openings & closings for July 2024

    A new neighborhood restaurant in St. Paul, a rooftop patio to enjoy the Minneapolis skyline and a highly-anticipated restaurant from a James Beard Award-finalist chef are among the new dining destinations in the Twin Cities.

    Here's a round-up of the latest restaurant openings and closings:

    Openings

    Beckett's (3006 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis): A new sports-themed bar is open in Uptown. " We love sports, we love pop culture, we love movies, and we really love when they all collide," the website reads. "Most of all, we love being a place for friends who love those things, too."     Local Rumor (1811 Selby Avenue, St. Paul): A new American restaurant is now open in St. Paul's Union Park neighborhood, serving up smash burgers, fish tacos, baked mac N' cheese, steak and more in the former Blue Door Pub space. All menu items at Local Rumor are currently priced at $18 or less.

    Nashville Coop (600 Penn Avenue South, Richfield): The food truck-born fried chicken restaurant from brothers Arif and Kamal Mohamed arrived in Richfield this month, becoming Nashville Coop's third brick-and-mortar location in the Twin Cities. Read more here .

    The Rooftop Bar (515 North Washington Avenue, Minneapolis): The Rooftop Bar above NOLO's Kitchen & Bar in the North Loop reopened Friday, July 26 with expanded space and a full-service food menu. Read more here .

    Vinai (1300 Northeast 2nd Street, Minneapolis): A highly-anticipated Hmong restaurant from James Beard Award-finalist Chef Yia Vang opens Tuesday, July 30. The menu will emphasize live fire cooking and grilling and feature an array of shareable dishes, such as charred cabbage and stir-fried greens. Read more here .

    Closings

    Bronto Bar (1432 West 31st Street, Minneapolis): The basement bar within Kim's in Uptown is closing down at month's end. Chef Ann Kim announced lunch service at Kim's is being discontinued. Read more here.

    Eli's Food & Cocktails (1225 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis): Eli's Food & Cocktails, which opened in 1960, quietly closed at the end of June. Read more here .

    Gray Duck Tavern (345 Wabasha Street North, St. Paul): Gray Duck Tavern in downtown St. Paul abruptly closed its doors this month after seven years in business. Read more here .

    Herman's Bakery (130 Main Street South, Cambridge): The family-owned bakery is closing on July 31 after 40 years in business. Read more here.

    Thai Basil (1180 West Frontage Road, Stillwater): Chef-Owner Phouvanh Soderquist, who founded St. Paul's Pad Thai on Grand back in 1999, closed her Stillwater restaurant this month after nearly a decade in business. Read more here .
