NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter Slams Skip Bayless, Reveals Explosive On-Air Clash

Skip Bayless, now departed from FS1 and his show Undisputed , is well-known for his controversial takes and combative style. Many in the sports world have therefore clashed with Bayless, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter is no exception.

The former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver used to appear on Bayless' former show, First Take , with fellow co-host Shannon Sharpe. Carter is now the co-host of Fully Loaded The Podcast with Shawn Meaike, and during a recent episode, he openly criticized Bayless based on their time working together.

“A number of years ago, I was on a show with Stephen A. (Smith) and Skip Bayless,” Carter said. “I was working at ESPN, doing NFL. I would do Mike Greenberg after doing my NFL stuff, and then I would come on there because Stephen A. and I were friends. I didn’t know Skip personally, and I’m gonna be honest with you: Skip Bayless was not one of my favorite people."

Carter recalled an incident during the height of the Tim Tebow phenomenon, when Bayless staunchly defended Tebow, leading to a heated on-air clash between the two.

“So, I’m on there doing the show," Carter said. "I do the show and everything. And all of a sudden — this is when the (Tim) Tebow phenomenon was going on, and he was a huge Tim Tebow guy… So I come on there on a Monday, and we’re trading barbs and everything. We go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And then I just leveled and said, ‘Listen, if throwing the football is important in the NFL, Tim Tebow will never be a starting quarterback.’ So, he got defensive and then he came back and said, ‘Well, that’s why you didn’t win a Super Bowl,’ which got nothing to do with nothing.”

Carter, infuriated by the comment, confronted Bayless during a commercial break.

“I told him, ‘I’ll never be on your show again, and if you ever say anything like that to me again, I’ll punch you right in the f***ing face,’” Carter said.

Despite pleas from colleagues, including Stephen A. Smith, to stay, Carter stormed off the set. “I won’t be on this show again as long as he’s on there."

Here's a video of the incident Carter is referring to:

Bayless had pointed out Carter’s lack of a Super Bowl win during their argument, a fact that stings given the truth about Carter's ringless career. The highest playoff stage Carter ever reached was the 1998 NFC Championship Game, where the Vikings suffered an upset loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Still, Carter’s career stats speak for themselves, and they’re why he's considered one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. He has 1,101 receptions, 13,899 receiving yards, and 130 touchdowns. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2013.
