Senior housing in the works for east Charlotte
Eliza Hammond, a pharmacist with Atrium Health for 16 years, was frustrated with Charlotte’s lack of affordable housing, so she took matters into her own hands. Hammond is working to build a new housing community for senior citizens in east Charlotte. The 40,000-square-foot community will include 32 units and is expected to cost around $9 million. The 1.5 acres of land, purchased by Hammond’s mother during the pandemic, was approved for use as “an age-targeted and income-restricted multi-family residential community” in March 2023 by the city of Charlotte.

Boone Man Dies After Collision With Deer On Watauga County Roadway
Boone – On Saturday, July 6, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Watauga County on Briarwood Lane near Big Hill Road. A Suzuki four-wheeler was traveling west on Briarwood Lane and struck a deer in the roadway. This collision caused the driver to lose control and overturn.

Pitt gripped in drought bullseye: Historically dry conditions raise concern
A dearth of April showers and less than half an inch of total recorded precipitation in June has made Pitt County a poster child for ongoing statewide drought conditions, an expert said. VALLE CRUCIS — The Valle Crucis Conference Center has announced a new trail leading to Crab Orchard Falls at the Valle Crucis Conference Center.
