Worst quality. Why do I want to write the 234th comment on The Shawshank Redemption? I am not sure - almost everything that could be possibly said about it has been said. But like so many other people who wrote comments, I was and am profoundly moved by this simple and eloquent depiction of hope and friendship and redemption.
The only other movie I have ever seen that effects me as strongly is To Kill a Mockingbird. Both movies leave me feeling cleaner for having watched them.
I didn't intend to see this movie at all: I do not like prison movies and I don't normally watch them. I work at a branch library and one day as I was checking The Shawshank Redemption out to one of our older patrons, she said to me, Whenever I feel down or depressed, I check out this movie and watch it and it always makes me feel better." At the time, I thought that was very strange. One day there was nothing on TV except things I absolutely would not watch under any circumstance or things that I had seen too many times already. I remembered what she said, so I watched it. I have watched it many many times since then and it gets better with every showing.
As a kid i watched this episode plenty of times and thought it was great. i finally watched the movie and its so much funnier. Great movie! Sam is the best. I had your momma! She werent that great XD. 17.99? Might as well go buy the dvd. This is so accurate to the movie 😂. Sometimes it makes me sad, though. Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend. The Friends pipe scene here was funnier than the entire series of Friends. 10:33 Ughhh Hobbits Gandalf is just the best.

Like most people I saw this movie (a) on the advice of a friend (b) on video. I knew very little about it, but was told "it's awesome.
The movie is built around Andy (Robbins) a real innocent man, sent to prison for the alleged murder of his wife and lover. He finds the going tough in prison ie the food is bad, his cell awful, sodomy, but he soon learns what it takes to survive. Just when you think "oh please don't' turn into Tom Selleck's 'An Innocent Man. you are thrilled to see the movie take another direction. Some acts of kindness win some of the inmates over and he soon finds a close ally in Red (Freeman. Andy goes about making a difference in prison and instilling hope into the lives of his friends. I won't go much further but it's fair to say I've never met someone who has seen this and not been impacted. This movie is what Hollywood should be about- and it was originally written by Stephen King! Get the Special Edition DVD for some excellent bonus features, most notably a parody that is extremely clever.
