Anthony Edwards, Kevin Durant Not Interested in Playing Together?

Fresh off a gold medal victory in the 2024 Olympics, Anthony Edwards gets to turn his focus back to the Minnesota Timberwolves. There was a possibility that roster turnover would take place, this offseason, but it appears largely status quo.

And from the sounds of it, that includes any theories that Ant might try to stump for a Kevin Durant acquisition, prior to training camp. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it has become wildly apparent that Anthony Edwards is a Kevin Durant fan.

Minnesota Timberwolves won’t be pairing Anthony Edwards with Kevin Durant

The two went at it during the Western Conference playoffs last season and it was incredible to watch. It didn’t take long, either, for fans and media member to start wondering out loud whether or not the two might try to join forces before the 2024-25 season.

Could the Wolves unload Karl-Anthony Towns or Rudy Gobert, to try and bring in KD? The Athletic’s Sam Amick doesn’t see that happening any time soon.

Anthony Edwards and Durant became fast friends who were dynamic together in Team USA’s second unit, so does that mean the 23-year-old Minnesota Timberwolves star might find a way to persuade his favorite player to force a trade to his (frigid) part of the country? Don’t count on it — from either side. After Minnesota’s run to the Western Conference finals last season, and with Edwards’ star on a meteoric rise, it’s so-far-so-good for him with his current core.

It’s not hard to see why the fit would be fun (and effective), but it doesn’t seem logical, at this point. Not only would it be very difficult to make happen, financially, but the Timberwolves have a cohesive unit, and the Suns have added talent on their own . Oh, and Durant probably isn’t jumping to move from Phoenix to Minneapolis during the winter seasons.

Durant could join Edwards and Minnesota Timberwolves down the line

Anthony Edwards is just 23 years old and coming off a season in which he received his first MVP votes. He will work with Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert in Minnesota again this season.

It doesn’t look like the former Kentucky Wildcat will go anywhere , and that includes a swap to Phoenix where he could play with Devin Booker. There just isn’t a realistic fit for Kevin Durant on the Timberwolves at this juncture. That doesn’t mean things won’t change in the future, of course.

The NBA has become a league where veteran talents look to chase rings. Durant already displayed that desire when he joined Steph Curry and Klay Thompson with the Warriors.

Durant has plenty of years left if he is going to follow the LeBron James path, and joining Edwards for a title run as he matures certainly isn’t out of the question. Edwards and Durant together could create a dynamic pairing both on and off the court.
