Even though head coach Jane Reimer-Morgan of Minnetonka limited events for some of her top athletes in the Lake Conference Meet May 23, the Skippers still racked up enough points to add a Lake title to the state Class AAA True Team title they won May 17.

St. Michael-Albertville and Wayzata were second and third in the Lake meet with Edina edging Hopkins and Eden Prairie for fourth place.

Senior hurdler Claire Kohler led the way as usual for Minnetonka by winning the 100- and 300-meter events. Skipper junior Zeal Kuku did her part with a win in the 100-meter dash in 12.29 seconds and then took first place in the 200 in 24.41 for a meet record. Ninth-grader Evie Malec was a winner in the 3200-meter run with 11:02.1.

Minnetonka senior Mya Folken took the high jump title with a best of 5 feet, 4 inches. Then there was an upset win for Bridget Koller, who took the title at 800 meters with a time of 2:17.16.

St. Michael-Albertville had some great performances to place second in the conference meet. The Knights’ highlight was a meet record of 53.99 seconds in the 400-meter dash by Emma Kvant. Edina sprinter Molly Bennett came close to breaking the record, as well, with her second-place time.

Hopkins highlight was junior Sydney Drevlow winning the 1600 with a time of 4:58.23.

Eden Prairie junior Vanessa Jordan soared to victory in the long jump with a best of 17 feet, 1.5 inches.

Wayzata took third place in the Lake team standings with several top performers showing the way. Sophomore Maddie Gullickson took second place in the 800-meter run and was third in the 1600. Trojan teammate Lila Golomb, also a sophomore, placed second in the 1600. The third sophomore distance star for Wayzata, Jazleen Malherek-Osorio, posted a second place in the 3200. In the same race, Edina junior Olivia Brinkman came on strong to take third place.

Sophomore Jessica Haux, a fast-improving hurdler for Wayzata, placed second in the 300s behind Minnetonka’s Kohler. Kohler’s teammates, Anna McKinney and Olivia Muehlstedt, placed second and third in the 300s.

Relay winners were notable for the Minnetonka girls. Tori McKinney, Brynn Rusing, Lindsey Koch and Briena Giebel won the 4x100 relay in 48.89. The Skippers took the 4x400 relay with Kuku, Malec, Koller and Kohler turning the track in 3:48.20 for a meet record. Minnetonka’s 4x800 relay prevailed in 9:13.08 with Muehlstedt, Koller, Ella Graham and Malec.

Eden Prairie had enough zoom to finish ahead of Minnetonka and everyone else in the 4x200 relay. Kaili Ricci, Emma Nguyen, Emma Martin and Jordan carried the baton for the Eagles.

Moving to field events, Folken needed to make her high jump at 5-4 to hold off Edina’s Maria Matysik and Wayzata’s Allie Berns, who both jumped 5-2.

Jackie Bergeron of St. Michael-Albertville won the pole vault at her home pit by clearing 11-6. Minnetonka junior Harley Wock cleared 11 feet for second place and Annabelle Speers of Hopkins placed third.

Folken and Kuku of Minnetonka were second and third in the long jump behind Jordan from Eden Prairie.

STMA placed 1-2-3 in the triple jump with Gabi Keefer’s 37-5 as the winner.

As expected, Wayzata junior Katie Kelzenberg won the shot put with a best of 38 feet, 5.75 inches. Kelzenberg had a second win with her 139-foot, 8-inch discus toss. Avery Fullerton-Anderson added a second place in the discus for Wayzata.
