MINOA, N.Y. (WSYR) – You ask, we answer!

We’ve heard complaints from a few of our viewers about the condition of Costello Parkway/Main Street in the Village of Minoa.

One viewer claimed recent construction work left several cuts/trenches in the roadway and described driving over them as “bone-jarring.”

Village of Minoa Mayor Bill Brazill said his phone had been ringing off the hook from residents complaining about the condition of the road that goes right through the heart of the village.

This is an Onondaga County road project. Brazill said he reached out the county asking for electronic signs to warn drivers of the rough road conditions. The signs were put in place last week.

Onondaga County sent us the following statement in regards to the cuts/trenches made to the pavement:

The Onondaga County Department of Transportation is working on an infrastructure repair and repaving project in the Village of Minoa on Costello Parkway/Main Street as part of our 2024 County Highway Work Plan.  This project involves removing aged and spalled concrete below the surface so that the roadway can be rebuilt to current standards and specifications.  The County DOT and the Village of Minoa have been in communication to ensure that expectations for the project are mutually understood.  Both the Commissioner of Transportation and the Mayor of Minoa thank the traveling public for being patient and slowing down to drive safely during this temporary construction disruption.

Justin Sayles, communications director with the Onondaga County Executive’s office, said the project cost $400,000 and is expected to be completed by the end of construction season, which means before the snow starts to fly.

Brazill said he recently met with Onondaga County’s Department of Transportation and was told crews will start patching some of the cuts/trenches to make it more tolerable for drivers.

He said eventually the road will be milled and paved.

Brazill said he knows the current condition of the road is frustrating for many, but added once construction is completed, the final product will be a nice upgrade for Main Street.
