    Severe Weather Hits Mississippi: Two Dead, Six Injured

    The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is collaborating with counties nationwide to evaluate the aftermath of severe weather and flooding that struck communities on April 9-10.

    As of the latest report, two fatalities have been confirmed, one each in Scott and Leflore counties, with an additional six individuals sustaining injuries as a result of the recent storms and flooding.

    According to the National Weather Service Jackson, an EF 1 tornado struck Hinds County on April 9, while an EF 0 tornado swept through Madison County’s Mannsdale area on April 10.

    Preliminary assessments indicate that 179 homes statewide have suffered varying degrees of damage. The figures provided below are subject to change as initial evaluations continue:

    • Grenada: 1 injury, nine homes affected
    • Harrison: 6 homes damaged
    • Holmes: 4 homes affected
    • Hinds: 38 homes damaged
    • Madison: 16 homes affected
    • Marshall: 9 homes damaged
    • Neshoba: 22 homes affected
    • Rankin: 10 homes damaged
    • Scott: 1 fatality, five injuries, 45 homes damaged
    • Warren: 16 homes affected
    • Yazoo: 4 homes damaged

    Emergency response teams are actively assessing the destruction’s full extent and providing support to affected residents. We will provide updates on the situation as they become available.
