    Mississippi mom charged with 'forcibly drowning' two-year-old in vicious attack

    A mother in Mississippi has been arrested in connection with the murder of her 2-year-old son .

    Adrienne McDevitt was arrested and held on $500,000 bail, after an initial investigation that led police to believe the child had been forcibly drowned .

    Shortly after 8 pm on Tuesday evening, police responded to a domestic disturbance call about a residence on Bolen Long Creek Road. There they found the lifeless body of Kelly McDevitt Jr , and transported his mother Adrienne to a local hospital. No information has been released about why she was taken for medical treatment.

    County Sheriff Ward Calhoun said in a press conference on Wednesday: “We are still of course awaiting the results in the coming days of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, but based upon our investigation, we have charged Adrienne McDevitt with murder.”

    Adrienne McDevitt has been booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

    “This is certainly a tragic event for this family and for our community, and I would ask the citizens of our community who are faithful, praying people, to pray for this family and for our department,” Calhoun said. “It is a difficult job for these men and women to do, but they have done that job professionally, and we will treat this case like we do other case where it will be thoroughly investigated and then present it to a grand jury for their consideration when that is appropriate.”
