Plant Fire south of Missoula burning 5 acres

UPDATE: 1:45 p.m. - July 8, 2024

Firefighters from the Lolo National Forest responded to a wildfire on Sunday, July 7 in the Plant Creek drainage south of Missoula.

The Plant Fire has now burned roughly 5 acres, and as of Sunday low to moderate fire behavior was being seen.

A helicopter, 3 engines, 2 water tenders, and two crews consisting of 15 people all together responded to the fire on Sunday.

Lolo National Forest Service crews responded to a fire near the Plant Creek drainage at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, 21 miles south of Lolo.

The latest reports show the fire has grown to 2.5 acres. Over 30 personnel, two helicopters and three fire engines are working at the scene.

Crews have begun to build direct fire lines as the fire is in the beginning stages, burning timber and grass. No structures are threatened at this time.

An investigation into what sparked the fire is continuing, but officials say that early indications point to it being a human-caused fire.
