Weather Alert Day: Another round of rain could bring more flooding to Mid-Missouri

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day ahead of the potential for more dangerous flooding as rain and storms return to Mid-Missouri tonight through Tuesday afternoon.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl are currently producing tornadoes across the Ark-La-Tex region, and the northern bands of the post-tropical low are bringing scattered storms with heavy rain and isolated damaging winds and hail have made it to southern Missouri.
Scattered storms slowly drift north tonight, with the severe threat diminishing as the sun goes down. Rain becomes more widespread and will be heavy at times between about 6:00 a.m. and noon. Showers are expected to continue through late afternoon or early evening as rain exits to the east.
The track of the low pressure system will determine rain amounts. Currently, the center of low pressure is expected to ride along the I-44 corridor, keeping the highest rainfall amounts along and south of that line. Farther north, rain is still expected, but amounts will be lesser.
A Flood Watch is in effect for much of Mid-Missouri following soaking rain this morning with another 1-4" possible. Much of Mid-Missouri will be on the lower end of that range, but many areas along I-70 will be vulnerable to flooding given the 7-10"+ of rain that has fallen since July 1. Columbia has recorded almost 11" since the start of the month, more than doubling the normal monthly rainfall just one week into the month.
It is imperative you heed local warnings and road closures due to flooding. If you see water covering a road, don't chance it; find a different route. It takes less than a foot of water to move a vehicle.
