South Alabama Coalition of Nonprofits hosts annual summit

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Several local nonprofit groups are meeting this week to learn from each other as they try to improve their missions across the coast.

The 10th annual South Alabama Coalition of Nonprofits Summit meets Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 at the student center of Spring Hill College.

They’ll offer different training tracks to different nonprofit groups. Whether you’re new to nonprofits, need to structure a better budget, improve communications or work on advanced topic like how to us AI to further your mission, there’s something for executives and volunteers.
They hope the people who sign up can take these skills back to their nonprofits and grow effectively.

“You know, teachers every year, they need to educate themselves. You have professional development or the private sector. This is really the one that we locally organize each year for the non-profits sector always important to. We have four different tracks,” said Alabama Coastal Foundation executive director Mark Berte.

While non-profit groups can cover a wide range of issues from the environment to homelessness, many are united by a mission to improve the community. Nonprofits face challenges with inflation making costs higher and some challenges in getting more donations.

“They are mission-driven. So whether that’s on a mission like the Alabama Coastal Foundation has to improve and protect our coastal environment, or Domus Wesley Center, we have all the different ones that have their own missions. But the great thing about the nonprofit summit is that whatever you’re focused on, you can do better,”
