With Valentine’s Day approaching we rack our brains for a gift. Roses? Chocolate? A couple’s coffin? huh!

It is true that there is such a thing. if you plan right, you do not need to take the phrase “till death do us part” to heart. Your bodies could spend eternity together. It is common to see couples have their graves next to each other in the same plot. It is also common to have families share plots and graves. So why not a couple’s coffin!

The tomb was one of 600 found in an ancient cemetery unearthed at a construction site in Datong, in Shanxi province in 2020. It is thought that the couple likely lived during the Northern Wei dynasty (386–534). What is even more romantic, she still wears a plain silver band on her ring finger.

Can Couples and Families Be Placed in the Same Coffin?

There are some things to consider:

    • Having a large enough casket for two may not be easily transportable.
    • You may not be able to find a site big enough to bury the couple’s coffin.
    • It may only be possible if you and your partner do not pass at the same time.
    • If you and your partner pass at different times. It might not be feasible to reopen a casket that already has the body of your deceased partner. You could be buried alongside them or even over them in a different coffin.

Can you be buried with your partner?

The answer is, yes and no. You can be buried with your partner in the same coffin. But it depends on the location laws and the rules of the cemetery. It also depends on if you can find a plot big enough.

As the name suggests, it is a designed tandem casket system that includes two caskets placed in a grave side by side. They are Interconnected by a passageway in which the hands of the occupants of each casket can hold hands. Ingenious!
