Upon her death in 2005, the Library of Congress digitized Rosa Parks’ personal papers. In these papers was her peanut butter pancake recipe. She had handwritten the recipe on the back of a First Independence National Bank of Detroit deposit envelope. Recipe below.

Rosa Parks is best known for her decision to stay seated on a bus during the era of Jim Crow laws. Her actions launched the Montgomery bus boycott and fueled the civil rights movement. That bus is now at The Henry Museum where you can board the bus and sit in the seat where Rosa made history.

Rosa Parks died on October 24, 2005, at the age of 92 in Detroit. A collection of her documents was digitized shortly after she died in 2005. The recipe was found in the Library of Congress collection of Rosa’s documents. It is unknown when and why she wrote on this envelope. But she was known for her pancakes among her family and friends. Now the recipe can be shared with the nation.

Below is the recipe transcribed from the envelope. Enjoy and tell us what you think about the recipe in the comments.
