(FOX40.COM) — Modesto Police announced on Wednesday that its officers seized more than 100 pounds of illegal fireworks from a person in the first week of July.

In a Facebook post, the agency said detectives from its teams that deal with major crimes and property crimes seized the fireworks, which had a value of over $2,000.

Pictures shared by the agency show several boxes of fireworks atop a truck’s bed.

The fireworks were linked to a 26-year-old resident of Stanislaus County, who was charged with possession of illegal fireworks for sale and possession of illegal fireworks exceeding 100 pounds.

Modesto Police remind residents that they can report illegal fireworks using the city’s GoModesto! app.

The city also announced that police will have aircraft patrolling on Thursday night to help spot people setting off illegal fireworks and directing officers on the ground to them.

California allows fireworks sales only during the days leading up to the Fourth of July, and only ones that have the State Fire Marshal’s “Safe and Sane” label.

Local cities and counties can ban the use of all fireworks, including Safe and Sane ones, and many local governments do so.
