Letter to the Editor: Carmel School Board should focus on school business
I recently sent an email to the Carmel Board of Ed regarding the events of June 22, in which pro-Israel counter-protesters behaved horribly at a pro-Palestine protest, where I was present. Two Board of Ed members participated that day–Jim Wise as a protester and Melissa Orser as a counter-protester–and many took to social media to complain about their involvement, so I wrote to provide my firsthand account. I got no acknowledgement of that email, which led me to believe the BOE did not consider the issue to be within its purview. That would have been fair. But then, at the July 9th Board Meeting, the Board suddenly introduced and passed a truly insane “resolution” to censure Jim Wise under the guise of rejecting antisemitism. To be clear: a group of non-Jewish Board members “censured” the only Jewish man on the Board for his political views, which the resolution completely mischaracterizes and misrepresents and which are totally unrelated to Board business.
